Over the last few years, Sire guitars and basses have established a very loyal following for their penchant to deliver high-quality instruments that musicians can get their hands on without breaking the bank. Many of today’s guitarists who have been able to try one can agree that their instruments punch way above their price point in terms of craftsmanship, playability, and sound. Pitbull Audio is stoked to continue to be one of the leading Sire dealers in the United States, and one of the very few to carry pretty much the entire lineup!

One of the defining aspects of the brand is their continued collaboration with legendary musicians Marcus Miller and Larry Carlton. Their partnership has progressed far beyond just one or two signature models - Sire turned to Miller and Carlton’s respective player preferences, insight and input for the entire line, from the ground up. Featuring a design ethos born from the perspective of a seasoned player, Marcus Miller’s Sire basses feature full, defined tone and smooth playability in both vintage and modern flavors. Contrasting nicely is storied jazz fusion axeman Larry Carlton’s line of guitars. Carlton’s axes are his preferential takes on a variety of different popular guitar archetypes, all optimized for the everyday player. Combined with their affordability to the point where most instruments will run you under a grand and even the highest-end, most extravagant models in the line go for under two, it’s no surprise Sire has become so beloved by the guitar and bass-playing masses.

As they’ve quickly become Sire’s calling card - and also the most popular Sire offering here at Pitbull - it feels right to start with their bass lineup. The Marcus Miller basses have become synonymous with pro-ready quality, reliability, and simplicity. Not only do the various models cover all kinds of pickup configurations, passive and active electronics systems, and 4- and 5-string options, Sire and Miller have made sure to offer a wide variety of colors, finishes, hardware and tonewood choices such as the resonant, forward Ash or the balanced Alder to cater to the individual preferences of every bassist out there, options usually only available on high-end instruments. Perhaps the most popular line in the Sire bass department is the Marcus Miller “V” series - the V3, V5, V7 and so on (the higher the accompanying number, the higher-end spec the Sire instrument is). These are awesome takes on the classic vintage-style “J'' design that feature modern improvements such as specially-voiced pickups, electronics, and ergonomic contours. They truly tried to make things as easy and intuitive as possible for the modern player, and we love them for it. The “P” series basses accomplish the same thing for the classic “P” style bass. For those who prefer something a little more edgy and modern, the “M” series has you covered. These have sleek, modern curves and lightning-fast, ergonomic neck profiles with the added bonus of looking a little more aggressive than a typical vintage offering. These remind us a ton of the popular European boutique designs out there. There are even more specialized options for bassists looking for something a little different, as well.

Complementing the Miller basses nicely is the aforementioned Larry Carlton series of guitars. In an identical fashion to the basses, Sire and Carlton co-developed each model with Carlton’s player perspective and preferences, creating a line of budget-friendly instruments that feature each different guitar archetype at their best and most practical. Among others, the line includes the most popular of the group, the “S” series, which is Sire and Carlton’s take on the classic bolt-on, three-single-coil vintage-style guitar, and includes different fingerboard wood choices, pickups (including some equipped with a humbucker for more versatility), tremolo variants, and finish options; the “T” series, which is a refined rendition of the twangy “T”-style instrument; the “L” series, which is Sire’s tribute to the 24.75”, dual-humbucker, single-cutaway classic rock axe; and the “H” series, which, as the name implies, fills the semi-hollow and hollowbody niche, and honors the style of instrument that Carlton is most closely associated with. We carry all of those here at the shop and love ‘em. Most recently, Sire has also introduced the “J” series, which shouts out the famed offset “Master of Jazz” guitar, as well as the “X” series, a Carlton-approved take on the “Superstrat”-style guitar designed for playing more aggressive styles of music. And, although we don’t carry too many, Sire also has a beautiful line of acoustic and acoustic-electric guitars in production, including the A3 & A4 series, and Carlton’s new G5 model that carries elements of both an acoustic and electric guitar. Sire definitely has the gamut covered when it comes to options for guitarists of all styles and genres.
