This AZ is extremely unique because, while it takes the AZ formula of the thicker roasted maple neck and the non-locking 2-point Gotoh 510-based tremolo, it incorporates elements of the iconic RG series and an overall more shredder-friendly feature set with an ebony fretboard, striking gold hardware reminiscent of Steve Vai's JEM guitars, and a basswood body as well as the typical "RG Prestige" pickup set and JEM/RG-style 5-way switching. Best of all, it's topped off with an absolutely gorgeous Hawaiian Koa top.

At the heart of the guitar is the tried-and-true Air Norton, True Velvet, and Tone Zone DiMarzio set of pickups that Ibanez tends to use on their RGs and S series models ranging from Premium to J. Custom, and for good reason - the combination of warmth and clarity in the Air Norton neck, the spankiness of the True Velvet, and the power and punch of the Tone Zone can cover any genre from jazz to death metal.
