Sabian 21916CS AA Series Holy China Cymbal 19"

A Truly Modern China Cymbal

In 2011 Sabian introduced the AA Holy China and the response from drummers around the world was overwhelming. A testament to Sabian innovation and forward-thinking design, the Holy China featured a higher profile to raise the pitch, holes for volume and sustain, and a large, unfinished bell for cut and durability. It was truly a modern Chinese cymbal.

Holy China

The Holy China is not for the faint of heart. A unique hole pattern, large raw bell, high profile and wide lip all combine to create a monster of loudness and cut. It’s a unique and explosive package, and it was designed with Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith.

Sabian AA – Vintage Bright

AA was the first cymbal series produced by Sabian when the company was founded in 1982. Using an automated hammering process to create stronger, tougher and louder cymbals, the combination of high-profile shape and small-peen concentric hammering raises the pitch for bright, explosive tone. And the use of traditional lathing increased durability and toughness for more intense, high-volume performances. As a result, AA cymbals are an ideal choice for classic rock and metal.

Who Plays AA?

Chad Smith (RHCP), Blake Richardson (Between the Buried and Me), Gene Hoglan (Deathlok, Fear Factory), Flo Mounier (Cryptopsy), Mike Wengren (Disturbed), Ray Luzier (Korn), Jimmy Degrasso (Alice Cooper) and Karl Perazzo (Santana), to name only a few.

Hand-crafted – Every Step of the Way

Like all Sabian B20 Cast Cymbals, AA series cymbals like the Holy China begin their life in the Sabian Foundry. There in the melting room, Sabian metallurgists combine carefully measured amounts of Copper, Tin and Silver. The metal is heated at 2100 degrees Fahrenheit, then poured into casts. This centuries-old family process results in the most musical and durable metal of all cymbal alloys. Once cooled and hardened, the metal castings are moved into the oven room to be separated by weight. At this stage, it’s hard to believe these castings will eventually become a Holy China cymbal. But first, they must go on a journey through Multi-rolling for intensity, Hammering for tone, Lathing for enhanced response and projection, and a final Aging process in the legendary Sabian Vault for optimum sound. In a sense, it’s a journey that’s only complete when you play the cymbal of your choice - an evolution from idea to reality.
