Mayones Comodous 5 MDi Mohini Dey 5-String Bass, Pau Ferro Fretboard, Trans Dirty Purple Raw
PLAYER'S PERSPECTIVE
Mayones needed to come up with a regal instrument to match the prowess of renowned young Indian bass phenom Mohini Dey, and they sure did! Built off their Comodous 5 platform, this one has a beautiful transparent purple finish and pickup covers that match the top. The gold hardware is a nice touch that will really make this stand out. The finish is what they refer to as their "raw" treatment, where you can still feel the pores of the wood. So this bass features the great tone we've come to expect from a Comodous model, but will for sure not look like any other one out there.
Dressed with looks to kill and armed with electronics that'll really thump, this Comodous is classy, yet thoroughly badass. The Aguilar humbuckers are beefy and powerful for a bass tone that cuts through the mix a bit more. They pump out loads of mid-range goodness while keeping the bass response tight and focused and still providing plenty of treble. Whether you're playing heavy rock with a pick or laying down a groove fingerstyle, or putting your thumb to the bass for some slap action, this bass has enough versatility that it can cover many genres. The Aguilar electronics in this are about as good as it gets for a hi-fi and modern sound, as they can get aggressive, barky, growly, and punchy, whilst maintaining the ability to be tamed, rounded out, and warmed up a bit if you want to sit back in the mix a little more rather than punching through.
This is a great instrument for the bassist who wants others to actually take note of their bass's tone. With an instrument like this, we bass players are able to be a lot more than simply the member of the band that covers the low and rumbly notes. You'll have all the articulation and definition you could ever need. If you want a bass that can cover modern funk, R&B, and soul tones with lots of growl, bite, and articulation, this will be a master of that. But it's also going to do a stellar job handling more aggressive hard rock sounds too. Whether clean and crisp or distorted and heavily saturated, your articulation and definition are never compromised.
