The S2 McCarty 594 Thinline is arguably our current favorite PRS S2 model here at the shop, and this example in a sweet Tobacco Burst finish is no exception. Similar to the Vela, it's unique in that there's no real Core equivalent - it may be based on the McCarty 594 platform, but the changes PRS has made to the design make it a unique beast all its own.
For starters, the toggle switch was moved from the upper horn to next to the volume and tone knobs, a change that makes pickup switching a lot more intuitive if you are more familiar with a "Custom"-style PRS or an S/T-style guitar. However, the biggest change you'll notice both upon immediately seeing and playing this model is the thin body - instead of a thick mahogany body and maple top, PRS streamlined the design to a much thinner piece of mahogany to improve ergonomics and make the guitar extremely light - most of these clock in around the 6-7lb mark, which is phenomenally light for a McCarty, while still being a very balanced instrument. These two changes make this guitar a pretty close equivalent and competitor to a certain iconic double-cutaway, "horned" guitar played by the likes of AC/DC and Black Sabbath. Lastly, PRS chose the Pattern Thin neck profile for this model, which you may be familiar with from the "Custom"-line guitars, such as the Custom 24.
Aside from that, you get the standard McCarty 594 features - really great sounding 58/15 "S" pickups and the same exact hardware found on the Core 594s as well as the fantastic playability afforded by the 24.594" scale length.
If you want a sweet McCarty that pulls vintage-style double-humbucker duties while staying well below the $2,000 mark and having the weight and ergonomics of a more contemporarily-styled PRS, check out the 594 Thinline!
The S2 McCarty 594 Thinline is an all-mahogany, thin-body guitar with a powerful voice. Whether you are looking for authentic humbucking tones or nuanced, sweet single-coil sounds, the S2 McCarty 594 Thinline can seamlessly master both sonic territories thanks to its 58/15 “S” pickups and dual volume and push/pull tone controls.
The S2 McCarty 594 Thinline is addictive to play, thanks in part to its all-mahogany body, versatile control layout, and bound 22-fret Pattern Thin neck. The distinctive, powerful voice is backed by modern construction, so it plays in tune, stays in tune, and is intonated the entire length of the neck. A zinc two-piece bridge and vintage-style tuners anchor this guitar and stay true to the promise of the McCarty family.
Designed to capture the heart of the McCarty family of instruments and stay true to the S2 Series spirit, the S2 McCarty 594 Thinline stands on its own as a gig-ready workhorse for the player who wants to cover a lot of musical ground.
