PRS Paul Reed Smith Wood Library Modern Eagle V Guitar, Brazilian Rosewood Fretboard, Korina Body, Tobacco Smoked Burst
PLAYER'S PERSPECTIVE
We're stoked to bring you another Wood Library exclusive instrument from our friends over at PRS! In collaboration with our friends in Maryland, we’ve hand-selected the tops, backs, necks, fretboards, hardware... basically every single detail of the guitar was painstakingly chosen for the perfect aesthetics, playability, and tone. This stunning Modern Eagle V in Tobacco Smoked Burst is truly the best of the best, featuring a Korina body, a 10-Top flame maple top, a beautiful figured maple neck and, the star of the show - real Brazilian rosewood, the most coveted of all fingerboard woods, on the fretboard!
Korina is a historically-renowned tonewood for a reason. This is almost like a "super-mahogany". It's got a bit of a sweeter midrange while also being a bit brighter than mahogany while having enhanced responsiveness that really brings out the dynamics in your playing. Korina is a rather difficult wood for luthiers to work with but it's absolutely amazing for guitars. You don't see it used quite as often these days, but Korina still drives up prices on vintage guitars, for example, and is a true throwback to the legendary guitars of the late 50's and early 60's.
Brazilian rosewood happens to also be the holy grail of tonewoods. The neck is absolutely divine from top to bottom and the tone of this guitar is bright while having lots of warmth and presence in the bottom end. Along with the figured maple neck providing some great top-end snap, the result is a classic tone with some elevated aesthetics.
Layout-wise, the Modern Eagle V essentially takes the Paul's Guitar as a foundation with its neck profile, mini-toggles for the coil-splits and the proprietary soapbar-like TCI humbucker pickups, and then borrows the tremolo bridge configuration from the Custom 24. This is already a great start as is, but the Modern Eagle V takes it a step further still.
Similar to how the Studio model is PRS' answer to the hot-rodded "HSS" pickup configuration, the Modern Eagle can be considered the PRS Core "HSH" equivalent, as it adds an awesome-sounding NS-01 single-coil in the middle position and a 5-way switch. This way, you get all the combinations of an HSH "Superstrat" type along with being able to get 3 true single-coils with the mini-toggle switches for more vintage-style single-coil tones. The tonal possibilities here are endless - this guitar can cover it all, from jazz, blues, R&B, country to rock and metal. This may now be the most versatile PRS Core guitar in the lineup!
There's a very real thing that can happen when you pick up a guitar that is just so inspiring that it makes you a better player by not only being easier to play, but also by giving you more motivation to pick it up and play it every chance you get. This gorgeous Wood Library instrument definitely fits the bill, and we hope you'll love it for years to come!
Details
The Modern Eagle V offers highly musical tones for both recording and playing live. A mix of classic and modern, the Modern Eagle V is built on a tried-and-true foundation of a maple top and mahogany back, a 22 fret, 25” scale length, Pattern mahogany neck with rosewood fretboard, bone nut, PRS Phase III Tuners, and the PRS patented Gen III tremolo. Its innovative pickup and electronics configuration puts a whole range of tones at your fingertips.
Utilizing a hum/single/hum (five-coil) pickup layout and unique electronics configuration, the Modern Eagle V gives players a vast array of tones in one guitar. The 5-way blade switch selects the pickups in intuitive groupings: treble, treble and middle, middle, middle and bass, and bass. There is a single volume and a push/pull tone control that activates both humbuckers when engaged; this allows players to access all three pickups simultaneously. Finally, the dual EQ mini-toggle switches act as tuned high-pass filters when engaged (in the up position), removing shelved low-end and allowing the high frequencies through for more clarity and musical highs.
“Modern Eagle models have always been built to stand up to history while celebrating tonewoods and the discovery of new tones. The Modern Eagle V is a sophisticated instrument not only in its craftsmanship but in its electronic and mechanical design,” said Paul Reed Smith.
