Anderson Guitarworks Drop Top Guitar, Blackheart Fretboard, Quilt Maple Top, Reverse Headstock, Atlantic Storm
PLAYER'S PERSPECTIVE
Just... Wow! Here's yet another truly remarkable offering from our friends over at Anderson Guitarworks. This gorgeous Drop Top HH with a beautiful quilted maple top finished in an aptly-named "Atlantic Storm" finish is one for the absolute ages. The combination of the blackheart fingerboard and the sleek, fierce reverse headstock is both distinct and fearsome to boot, providing awesome looks to go with its terrific tone on tap.
This axe is loaded with tons of character and looks stunning both up close and from afar. The roasted maple neck feels divine, and the overall neck is made even better by the immaculate fretwork. The attention to detail on this guitar is classic "Tom Anderson" in the best of ways. Low action and butter-like playability is the name of the game with this Drop Top, for sure. Everything about it is just effortless.
For electronics, we went with a versatile but definitely rock-ready tonal palette. The HC humbuckers are some of our favorites. As a set, the HC1 and HC3 are a touch hotter than something that would be considered medium output, and at their DCR, they sound great with distortion as expected. But because they are still well balanced, they sound beautiful when played clean, too. Whether you want them to be smooth and sweet or heavy and cutting, they can pull it off.
Anderson just never fail to impress us with their guitars. The crew over there make some of the best bolt-on guitars in the world and this one stands tall at the summit of that mountain!
Details
Before the introduction of the magnificent Drop Top in 1990, the number of "S" style guitars that had a maple top that was “dropped” to create a comfortable forearm contour were exactly zero. As a result of this design, we've chosen a body top thickness of 3/16 of an inch, which actually enhances and enrichens the sonic character of the instrument. The result is a guitar that not only plays effortlessly, is extremely comfortable, and sounds amazing but is so darn good looking that if you don't dress well it just may upstage you. Today, along with your choice of flame or quilted maple, walnut or koa top, Drop Top now offers four choices of body backing tone wood to bring the sonic character you desire from your "S" to bear on the bandstand.
Mahogany back: focused and aggressive mids bring humbuckers roaring to life and offer an overall powerful experience - a very popular choice.
Pickups
HC 1: More neck humbucker saturation, output and smoothness than HC1- while still retaining equilibrium for the neck position perfection. The quintessential mate for the medium-hot HC2 in the bridge position.
HC 3: Surprisingly musical and sweet but will roar when required. We have been very pleased, getting classic rock to shred tones.
