The roasted maple neck isn't just for show, either - the feel of it is just amazing especially when cranking out steady rhythms and grooves on the lower strings, and really helps to make the 5-string neck width feel comfortable for 4-string players. The stability of the neck also helps keep the low B string tight despite it being a standard 34" scale length as well.
