Player's Perspective

Here's another impressive G&L ASAT Classic Bluesboy from their Fullerton factory in a totally cool Plum Crazy finish. The ASAT is G&L's evolved take on the original T-style guitar designed by Leo Fender himself, and we found this awesome purple example to be particularly reflective of the model's quality.

Here at the shop, we love guitars that are modern and practical with "quality of life" improvements that cater to the player, but retain the vintage tone we all love. The "modern classic" neck profile gets things off to a great start - while it's decidedly "modern" and much faster-playing than the vintage equivalents, it doesn't forget its roots and has just enough meat to make the transition over from a vintage/vintage-reissue T easy. Next is the bridge - it combines the modern six-saddle design with improved intonation with the brass construction of the vintage-style T bridge for a true marriage of the best of both worlds. This guitar also feels way more comfortable to play than an average T with the pronounced belly cut for improved ergonomics when you're sitting down.

G&L really killed it with these pickups. You can tell at first glance that the MFD single-coil bridge is no ordinary T-style pickup - this one bites just a little harder to handle more modern styles nicely while still retaining the vintage twang this type of guitar is known for, while the vintage-output neck humbucker is very warm and creamy with the Alnico II magnet while still remaining clear.

If you want to try a great T-style guitar alternative that has the pickup configuration and playing comfort worthy of a true workhorse, take this USA-made ASAT Classic Bluesboy out for a spin.

Item Specifics

The alder-bodied, maple-necked G&L ASAT® Classic Bluesboy™ is a factory-modded version of Leo’s final word on the traditional single-cutaway bolt-on axe. For players looking for the unmistakable warmth of a classic humbucker in the neck position, the Bluesboy delivers with a well-balanced pairing of a G&L A2S4248N Alnico II magnet humbucker and a single-coil G&L Magnetic Field Design™ bridge pickup designed by Leo Fender†. Framed in a classic boxed-steel bridge, the single-coil MFD™ bridge pickup delivers crisp attack with complex harmonics while individual brass saddles offer modern levels of intonation refinement. Flip to the neck ‘bucker and you’ll discover all the charismatic warmth you could ask for. Put ‘em together and you’ll find yourself immersed in exploring the limits of this guitar’s surprising versatility. The Fullerton Deluxe Bluesboy’s hard-rock maple neck features G&L’s Vintage Tint Satin finish, comfortable 9 1/2″ radius and Jescar 57110 medium-jumbo nickel-silver frets for silky playability.
