We're proud to bring you this beautiful D-41-inspired custom Dreadnought that we worked on with our friends at the Martin Guitars Custom Shop! Among an overall incredible presentation and array of high-end specifications, the star of the show are the cocobolo back and sides.

Since Brazilian rosewood became extremely rare, endangered, and very expensive, many agree that cocobolo is the next best thing. It has a lot of similar tonal properties - warm, while still having a bright top end - and the figuring is absolutely stunning. We love the redness in the wood and how the headstock matches the back of the guitar beautiful.

With the cocobolo back and sides serving as the tonal foundation, the tried-and-true Sitka spruce top, mahogany neck and ebony fingerboard build on it to create something truly special. The guitar sings out like a choir of angels. The dreadnought body shape gives it a big bottom end, while the cocobolo provides the perfect amount of treble and hi-mids. It isn't too piercing, but definitely stands out - whether in a singer-songwriter situation or if you're playing with a band. The slight natural mid-scoop is perfect for not getting in the way of vocals, while the punchy bass response will stay defined and articulate. The beautiful, bell-like top end of the guitar is truly a standout. It's present in all the ways you'd want it to be, and has the voice that Brazilian rosewood is so revered for. The combination of warmth, brightness, and articulation all dwell within this full-bodied dreadnought. The neck has a luxuriously silky satin finish, while the body is glossed to really make the beautiful figuring in the woods pop.

For the players here at the shop, the greatest "Custom Shop" instruments combine the tone and playability that a certain model is known for with appointments such as the ones on this one that make it a true one-of-a-kind instrument and heirloom piece.
