With all the preamp controls flat and both pickups on the tone is extremely tight, punchy, and growly. But really that's just a starting point. The onboard Mayo preamp allows you to either mellow your sound out, scoop it for some slap, or make it more aggressive in the mid-range, for example, without ever having to turn around to touch your amp. It also sounds great run in passive mode to get a bit more of a vintage tone.
