This guitar is aggressive and super fast to play and if you're not careful, it could just bite your head off, too... The irony, of course, being that a Hydra is a many-headed serpent from Greek mythology. This guitar, however, is headless. Easy to transport (especially on airplanes) and easy on the shoulders and back, there are some definite advantages to the slimmed-down and sleek design concepts in this guitar.  Blazing lead licks up and down the fretboard are a real breeze while complicated chord shapes are still easy to get every note to ring out perfectly.

The multi-scale design is great for anybody that might be looking to drop-tune for some songs. Even if you're just playing in standard tuning, it provides a fantastic feeling of string-to-string balance that simply can't be achieved with having every string at the same scale length. The low E string never feels floppy or wobbly. Meanwhile, your high-E string won't sound like a whiny dying cat from being stretched out too far. Each string will be at a perfect scale length and will still maintain some fullness and body to the note. It takes virtually no time to get used to playing one of these, and requires no changes to your playing technique.

The Fishman Fluence pickups in this axe are a great addition. Since their introduction, they've really been redefining what a pickup is capable of. The Fluence Modern humbucker set features a ceramic magnet bridge pickup, which is a bit more harder-edged and aggressive sounding, and alnico magnets in the neck pickup, for a bit of a warmer, more vocal  tone. With voice 1, the pickups have a modern active high output vibe to them. They're crisp, searing, and cutting. In voice mode 2 they sound more like passive pickups, with increased dynamics and touch-sensitivity.
