Although they're known for instruments with a more modern aesthetic, Mayones crafted this Hadrien Feraud signature 5-string bass in a way that combines vintage looks with contemporary tone and versatility. Upon opening the premium Mayones hybrid bag, we were immediately greeted by the beautiful white blonde finish, hand-aged with painstaking attention to detail to evoke vibes of a well-loved vintage bass.

The carbon rod-reinforced maple neck and rosewood fretboard are effortless to play and feel great, as with all Mayones necks, and pairing that combination with old-school J looks has especially won the hearts of the traditionalists here. It's not without its modern appointments, though - the heel is contoured for far greater fret access than an original J.

Mayones once again nailed it with the configuration of the Delano pickups and proprietary Mayones preamp. Switchable between passive and active, the Delano pickups are hum-canceling and have a bit more output than old-school pickups whilst retaining awesome versatility. If you're looking for an axe that has a decidedly modern sound but still possesses that passive vintage vibe, then look no further! In passive mode, the Delano pickups are dead silent and have a bit more punch and output to them than a traditional J-bass single-coil. We wouldn't call them vintage-sounding per se, but they certainly mellow out a little in passive mode.

If you're looking for a premium J-style bass that has the appearance of a vintage instrument, the quality of luxury, and the tonal versatility of a true workhorse, the HF5 is a top-tier choice!
