We're stoked to bring you another Wood Library exclusive run from our friends over at PRS! We took a little trip over to Maryland, and while there, we hand-selected the tops, backs, necks, fretboards, hardware, etc... basically every single detail of the guitar was painstakingly chosen for the perfect aesthetics, playability, and tone. This 24-08 in a custom Blue Fade Charcoal Microburst satin finish commissioned just for us has a particularly unique quilted maple top, along with a Torrefied (Roasted) Curly/Flame Maple neck, a jet-black ebony fingerboard and ebony headstock veneer. The way the black perimeter of the custom body finish matches the ebony, and the roasted maple with the beautiful natural mahogany, is just incredible!

If you were a fan of the old PRS 408, or if you ever felt like the Custom 24 needed even more versatility than it already had, then this guitar has your name all over it! The Custom 24-08 is a hybrid of the flagship Custom 24 model with some of the pickup combinations offered in the 408 - with two individual coil-split mini-toggles, you can achieve literally any combination of humbucking and/or single-coil modes with the 85/15 pickups.

The quilt maple top is mesmerizing and unique. The entirety of it has a lot going on no matter where you look. We really dig how this one came out - a combination of a blue finish and a quilt top is always a winner with its reminiscent qualities of ocean waves. We also chose a stunning piece of roasted flame maple for the neck, which both adds some nice snap and brightness to the tone along with looking gorgeous. The tight and bright combination of the roasted maple and dark ebony fretboard (and matching veneer!) is tonally beautiful as well. From top to bottom, and from front to back, there's no shortage of both ear and eye candy built into this guitar. 

We pour a lot of passion into each guitar that we concoct with the PRS team. The goal is always to design instruments that are not only unique and look beautiful, but also sound absolutely phenomenal. This one fits the bill - it's definitely a lean, mean, shredding machine!

Details

The Custom 24 is the quintessential PRS guitar, the iconic instrument that started it all back in 1985. Featuring mini-toggle coil tap switches (like the PRS 408 model), the Custom 24-08 has eight different pickup settings that provide an array of humbucking and single-coil tones, including a dual single-coil option unique for this model. It’s All in the Details: TCI-Tuned Pickups 

Paul Reed Smith is known as a man who studies history, scrutinizes the details, and never stops applying what he learns to his own instruments. It is that passion, care, and tenacity that has permeated PRS Guitars’ culture and led to the constant evolution of PRS products. Last year, PRS announced TCI (tuned capacitance and inductance) pickups on the Paul’s Guitar. But, TCI is more than a pickup, it’s a process. That process has now been applied to all PRS pickups offered on our Core line of instruments, with the exception of a few artist Signature models.

“TCI stands for Tuned Capacitance Inductance. When you wind a pickup, the coils are capacitors, resistors, and inductors simultaneously. Our more refined ability to be able to tune those factors is what we have incorporated into TCI pickups,” said Paul Reed Smith. “To our ears, the results are very musical. We are very proud of how far we’ve come in the understanding and making of pickups. It’s been a fun process.”
