The gorgeous Shell Pink finish is distressed just enough to make the guitar feel gently worn in, and the satin-finished roasted maple feels almost like bare wood as your hands glide up and down the neck. The Suhr Medium C profile neck with a compound radius will feel extremely familiar to fans of both modern and vintage S-type guitars alike.

Sonically, the guitar's stellar pickup configuration is intended to have the capability to get aggressive when you dig in while still having the versatility to clean up nicely like a more vintage S-style guitar. The pickups are relatively modern-sounding and have moderately higher output than an average single-coil and PAF-type humbucker, but are still incredibly touch-sensitive and responsive to picking dynamics like a vintage guitar should be. Suhr really nailed it with these. As much as the guitar can nail the amount of drive necessary for Mateus' soaring leads and heavier riffage, they easily get some beautiful bluesy, lightly overdriven tones and shimmering clean sounds as well.

As a prolific touring guitarist, Mateus needs to be able to cover a wide range of sonic options without having to stop in between every song to change to a different guitar. This guitar will do that. There's really nothing you could throw at this guitar that it wouldn't be able to handle.

For a guitar that'll feel and sound as good in your hands as it will look when it's hanging on a stand, Suhr is pretty much always the way to go - especially spec'd out to the preferences of a discerning player like Mateus.

Details

In 2013 Mateus Asato received his first Suhr Classic Antique. Little did we know at the time, he would go on to become one of the most inspirational and in-demand guitar players in the world today. He has performed with artists such as Tori Kelly and Jesse J, just to name a few.

The Mateus Asato Signature Series is available in two finishes: Gloss Black and Antiqued Shell Pink. Both models feature our Even C Medium neck profile, which is carved from silky-smooth satin finished Roasted Maple. The Indian Rosewood fingerboard features our 9″-12″ compound radius and is appointed with 22 stainless steel heavy frets. A 2-Post Tremolo, V63+ single-coils, and Custom Alnico humbucker complete the specs. Each guitar comes with a special laser-engraved neck plate, Mateus’ signature on the back of the headstock, and is delivered in a classy black tolex hardshell case.
